FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Marketing.  You are allowed to have social media accounts and a YouTube channel.  In the past, we were prohibited from having individual websites and from selling online.  In the past month however, we are now allowed to have an online sales platform through Lightspeeds eCommerce site, which links directly to the stores Lightspeed account.  With that you are allowed to have a custom domain name but it must follow the RF naming rules.  I believe it would be RocketFizzLansingMI.com.   Marketing is 100% controlled by the franchisee.  The franchisor does some things with media but they do nothing at all specifically for the local markets.  Marketing has been intentionally and significantly scaled-down (virtually nonexistent) at this location due to the owner’s limited ability to manage the store due to health reasons.  There is major upside and opportunity here as even moderate marketing will generate a significant increase in revenue.
2. Music is required at each location.  It is supposed to be on all the time.  RF signed us up with Pandora originally, they wouldn’t know if you changed services or created your own play list or went to a free service.  Just as long as the music fit the theme of the store.
3. Layout of the store- flexibility.  The actual store layout was created by corporate when we opened.  You are free to move anything around wherever you’d like.  RF Corporate audits once per year for about an hour, all they care is that the store is stocked with product.
4. Vendor lists.  We do have an approved vendor list and we are supposed to follow that list.  Every store has local suppliers they use as well.  Corporate doesn’t care as long as the items fit the theme.
5. Flexibility in adding other candy.  You can absolutely add any candy items you’d like.  You are limited to prepackaged items though per the food license.
6. How long does the candy last (perishables).  Prepackaged candy lasts anywhere from 3 to 12 months, depending on the item.  Taffy is good for 1 year from manufacture date.  Soda is good for 2 years.  Anything received within 60 days of expiration is credited to our account and are allowed to still sell it up to the expiration date. We try to move close date candy by discounting it or by creating “Grab Bags”.
7. Royalty is 5% of gross sales with a minimum of $900.
8. Busy months, slow months.  Jan, Feb, and Oct are the slowest months of the year for us.  Easter through Summer and Christmas are our busiest months.
9. Staffing.  Although any changes can be made depending on the desires of a new owner, the store is currently managed by someone who has been there since the store opened and there are two other employees.
